You might be thinking of hiring a personal branding photographer, but before you book a branding photoshoot, there are a few things to think about.
In this blog, I will sharing some personal branding photography dos and don’ts so you have a clear strategy and avoid these mistakes when you are ready to book a personal branding photographer.
Personal Branding Photography Don’ts
DON’T rush into booking a branding photography session. This is an investment for your business. A branding photo session takes more strategic planning than a simple headshot. Think about what your ultimate goal is to have a branding photoshoot done.
Is it for a public relations campaign?
Are you rebranding your business?
Are you hiring a social media manager or a marketing agency to market your business, and you need fresh photos every quarter?
DON’T wear trendy clothing or use seasonal props. You want your brand photos to work for you as long as possible. Trendy clothing or props can make your photos outdate faster.
DON’T forget to communicate (before, during, and after the photoshoot). We are photographers, not mind-readers. Open communication is crucial in making sure that you get the photos you want.
Personal Branding Photography Dos
DO some research on the branding photographers in your area.
Look at their portfolios to see if their photoshoot and editing style match your brand.
Read their Google reviews.
Schedule a call with a few photographers so you can talk to them (preferably via Zoom or in person) and ask them questions. That way, you have all the information you need to make a decision and hire a photographer who is the right fit for you. If you’re not comfortable with them, your photos will come out awkward or unnatural.
DO consider working with a makeup artist, hair stylist, and/or a personal stylist. These professionals will make sure you are showing up to the photoshoot looking your best! Plus, it’s a great way to pamper yourself. After the photoshoot, go out with your spouse or friends! Ask your photographer for recommendations.
Do incorporate your brand colors into your brand photos. You can wear clothing or use props with your brand colors. This is a great way for people to recognize your brand easily. You don’t need to have your brand colors in every photo, but not having any would be a missed opportunity to build your brand awareness.
I hope you find these tips helpful to start planning and finding a branding photographer.
