A few months ago, one of my photographer friends, Angela Acosta from Angela Atelier Photography, reached out to me and told me about her passion project – The Gal Project. When she asked me to be a contributor photographer to volunteer my time and be a contributing photographer for this cause, I immediately said yes! I love the mission and everything about the project.
The Gal Project’s mission is to help women leave their legacy for their children and generations to come, to help women entrepreneurs and small business owners increase their visibility, and to promote equality by telling the stories of their contributions. They want women to have access to professional photography who otherwise cannot afford it.
I was thrilled to photograph Elizabeth at The Gal Project’s pilot shoot on June 12, 2021. It was held in a beautiful loft apartment in Newark, New Jersey.
She is a professional writer who loves to put the grand occasion of a wedding ceremony into words. She sees the joining of two hearts into one as art that needs to be captured, and she is exceptional at capturing the beautiful moment in words.
Elizabeth got ideas for her business from hearing the fascinating stories of how soon-to-be-married couples met and all the things about their partner that made them “The One”. She is especially intrigued by the stories of relatively older couples who have been together for many years. They’ve been through a lot together, so there are many more stories for them to tell than younger couples. The disappointing fact is that their most fascinating stories are usually not known to anyone except themselves, and these beautiful stories are lost once they are gone.
Elizabeth believes everyone has at least one great story of their life and a lesson that could teach something to other people. The best place to find these beautiful stories is in romantic relationships where a strong bond is integral to the formation of the relationship. She thinks it’s a great idea to allow couples to preserve the story of their love and have it as a piece of family history that their family and descendants can read and enjoy.
That is why she expanded her idea to write for more than just married couples. She also writes to document huge life milestones like retirement, family reunions, the achievement of a long-time goal (like starting your own business or graduated from college). According to her, there is no reason why only celebrities should have such special moments captured in stories. Everyone remains the main character in their own life story, and you should know that your story is too wonderful to go untold.
