When Michelle Fleischer, founder of Embroidery Babes, reached out to me about photographing the Threaded Together Event—a fundraiser supporting women who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss—I immediately knew I wanted to be involved.
This cause is deeply personal to me. I had a miscarriage in 2015, and at that time, there were no resources or support systems offered by my OB or the facility where I had my D&C. I felt lost and alone. (You can read my full story here.)
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to come together and raise awareness while supporting two incredible nonprofit organizations: Courage in Time, Inc. and Resolve.org.

The event took place on October 8, 2025, at the beautiful Felina in Ridgewood, New Jersey. I arrived around 5:30 p.m. to photograph the space and capture every thoughtful detail before guests arrived. The venue was so unique! It was once a bank and has since been transformed into a stunning catering hall and restaurant. How cool is that?
Before attendees began arriving, I photographed Michelle, her family, her amazing team, and the event sponsors.

As attendees checked in, they were warmly welcomed by Michelle’s team and given lovely pink swag bags before heading up to the balcony for drinks, pizza, and cookies. The energy was amazing as the sponsors mingled and connected with guests.

Michelle opened the evening by sharing her own story of loss. She talked about how embroidery became a healing outlet during that difficult time of her life. It helped ease her anxiety and gave her strength.
She then invited Jill from Courage in Time and Kara & Kristen from A Work of Heart Counseling to share their own heartfelt stories of loss. Their words were raw and emotional. I found myself tearing up behind the camera. Hearing how each of them transformed pain into purpose was truly inspiring!

As the evening continued, guests visited sponsor tables, enjoyed more food and drinks while Michelle announced the raffle winners. Then they participated in the embroidery workshop led by Michelle and her team.
For many attendees, it was their first time picking up a needle and thread. Everyone was eager to learn, and by the end of the workshop, many proudly showed off their finished designs.
The room was filled with laughter, encouragement, and connection. The energy that night was something special—proof of what can happen when women come together to support one another.
Thanks to the dedication of Michelle from Embroidery Babes, Jill from Courage in Time, Kara & Kristen from A Work of Heart Counseling, and all the incredible volunteers and sponsors, the Threaded Together Event made a real impact. Women left feeling supported, seen, and reminded that they are not alone.

Here’s what Michelle shared about her event photography experience with me:
“Charissa recently photographed a charity event for my business, and I couldn’t have been happier with her work. Her photos perfectly captured the energy and emotion of the night, and her professionalism and positive energy made the entire process effortless. Charissa has a wonderful way of blending in seamlessly, allowing her to capture authentic, natural moments without disrupting the flow of the event. I highly recommend Charissa to photograph your next event — you won’t regret it!”
Thank you, Michelle, for trusting me to photograph such a meaningful evening. It was an honor to document this beautiful event filled with love, healing, and community.
