“This Ability NOT Disability” Book is about how a learning challenged son transformed his life and became a dog behaviorist and trainer. I was so excited and honored to be a sponsor of this amazing event. It was held at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands, New Jersey on Saturday, July 21st, 2018.
I arrived around 12pm to attend the VIP reception where there were hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a beautiful cake with the book cover printed. The author, Winnie Chin and her son, Kevin Li, greeted each VIP guest as they entered into the event room and thanked them for their support (100% of the VIP ticket sales and a portion of the book sales go to Bergin University of Canine Studies, where Kevin studied and received his bachelor’s degree.). Winnie and Kevin gave a beautiful speech at the VIP reception, you can watch the Facebook live video here.
Cesar Millan wrote a beautiful testimonial about his time spent with Kevin. In the book, there was a story on how Kevin and Winnie met Cesar in person, it was incredible!
After 1pm, the book launch was opened to the public. Everyone enjoyed the entertainment (DJ and a cool photo booth), refreshments, and excited for the author’s presentation.
During the entire event and the presentation, one thing stood out for me that resonated with the Star Character, Kevin Li, was his passion. He brought out the best in him through his love and passion for dogs. As he mingled around with his 10 months old service dog in training, all the guests, regardless of age, were so happy and proud of his achievements. There were so much emotions… happiness, tears of joy and excitement in the air.
The presentation even included demonstrations by Kevin. In one of the demonstrations, he showed a card with the word “SIT” or “DOWN” to his service dog, Xiu, without saying a word and the dog did those commands. It was amazing!
After the presentation, the raffle drawings started and everyone was so excited.
One of my favorite moments was a man gave his raffle ticket to a little girl so that she can win a prize. Just the look on her face is priceless!
This book launch was so unique and fun from beginning until the end, it felt more like a celebration than a book launch. I just love the quotes on the banners - “Find the superhero in you” and “Never give up”.
I had the best time capturing all of these raw emotions and the incredible love for Winnie and Kevin! Congratulations to Winnie and Kevin on your success and wishing you all the best!
If you haven't realize by now, the author is my mother and this book is about my brother. I am so proud of both of them and their achievements!
